Nelle bobine a corrente alternata l'assorbimento di corrente nella fase iniziale è evidentemente maggiore che nella fase di arresto. Pertanto esse non possono mai essere azionate senza un nucleo magnetico, perché sussiste il pericolo di surriscaldamento e potrebbe bruciare la bobina. Un effetto simile si verifica se le valvole sono azionate da magneti in corrente alternata con frequenze di commutazione molto elevate (On/off). In questo modo le bobine si trovano spesso nel campo di assorbimento elevato e possono quindi surriscaldarsi. Per questi casi di applicazione si raccomanda l'impiego di bobine RC dotate di connettore per alimentatore automatico.
Per le bobine alimentate in corrente continua possono verificarsi picchi di tensione durante il processo di spegnimento. Raccomandiamo pertanto per queste bobine l'impiego di connettori dotati di circuito di protezione.
